Meet Amalara

Amalara Sofía is a renowned Puerto Rican drag artist, female illusionist, and entertainer with 18 years of experience on stages, in pageants, theater, television, and audiovisual productions.
In 2009, she earned the title of Miss Fotogénica Gay Puerto Rico, a platform that opened the doors to the art of drag and marked the birth of her artistic identity.
Her name pays tribute to two fundamental figures in her development: Lara Stevenson, one of her earliest inspirations, from whom “Amalara” originates — “Ama,” meaning love, and “Lara” — and the legendary Yara Sofía, her drag mother, who welcomed her into the renowned Sofía empire.
Throughout her career, she has earned important titles, including Miss Queen of Beauty, Miss Legendary Continental, Puerto Rico All American Goddess, Miss Gay Puerto Rico, Miss Kweens Puerto Rico, and Miss PR Universo Latina, establishing herself as a prominent queen and representative of Puerto Rico’s pageant circuit.
Her talent has also extended beyond competitions. Amalara has participated in theatrical productions such as Lentejuelas, as well as television projects including AJ and the Queen alongside RuPaul, and films such as Chick Fight and Art of Love. She was also part of Bad Bunny’s music video and audiovisual project “El Apagón – Aquí Vive Gente.”
In 2022, she reached a new level of international exposure by becoming a finalist and first runner-up on the first season of Drag Latina, where she earned three challenge wins during the competition. She later expanded her professional work as a coach and co-host of the reality show La Drag Queen Soy Yo.
In Puerto Rico, Amalara has also established herself as one of the Island’s leading drag brunch hosts. Her charisma, stage presence, and connection with audiences have led her to host some of the country’s most prominent drag brunches, with residencies and performances at venues such as The Tryst Hotel in Condado, DeLaVida Resto Bar in Santurce, and Kueros Restaurant at Hotel Rumbao in Old San Juan.
In addition to her work as a host, Amalara has become one of the prominent faces associated with The Tryst Hotel and the broader Tryst Hospitality brand. Her work with the company has extended beyond Puerto Rico, with appearances and collaborations connected to The Tryst Puerto Vallarta, Provincetown, and The Abbey in Los Angeles, further expanding her presence within LGBTQ+ nightlife and hospitality spaces internationally. She has also served as a spokesperson and featured personality in campaigns for MISTR, strengthening her visibility as both an entertainer and a public-facing LGBTQ+ figure.
She serves as the official host of Pride Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico’s longest-running LGBTQ+ Pride march, where she has become one of the recognizable voices and faces welcoming thousands of attendees to this historic celebration of visibility, diversity, and community
Known for her glamour, mastery of female illusion, and impersonations of figures such as Miley Cyrus and Madonna, Amalara Sofía has built an artistic identity that combines beauty, fashion, performance, and an unmistakable stage presence.
More than a decade after that first victory, Amalara continues to evolve and reaffirm her place within Puerto Rican drag as “The Immortal Beauty of Puerto Rico.”
